About: PERFORMANCE/SAMTAL
From the streets outside the Stonewall Inn to today’s Pride parades, sex workers have always been part of queer resistance. In “Red Lights, Camera, Action: Sex Work in Pop Culture and Media,” Red Umbrella Sweden and MJK invite you to rethink pop culture’s most familiar sex work tropes, from the “tragic victim” to the “glamorous hooker with a heart of gold”, and connect those stories to how it affects sex workers. Through performance, examples and conversation, we unpack media myths and discuss harm, positive shifts and how to reclaim the narrative.
MJK is the performative extension of the artist Måns/Sasha Samuelsson. MJK aims to celebrate and/or mock things in their surroundings that provoke, enthuse and hurt. MJK is an ongoing project where the artist performative self explores circus, performance, drag, sculpture, painting, sound and text. The project that is MJK has been going on since 2024. MJK is critical, sexual and humorous in their artistic expression.
